  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup sour cream (sub Greek yogurt)

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips

  • 1 cup fresh cherries or 2/3 cup dried cherries*

Instructions (yields 14 muffins):

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Line two muffin tins with liners and set aside.

  • Mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. Set aside.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar together until well combined. Whisk in the sour cream, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.

  • Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and fold together with a spatula until completely combined. Be careful not to overmix. The batter will be very thick.

  • Fold in the chocolate chips and cherries. See recipe note if using fresh cherries.

  • Bake in the oven at 425°F for 5 minutes, then turn down to 350°F, and bake for another 15 minutes. The muffins should spring back to the touch, and a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin should come out clean. Repeat with the remaining muffin tin.

  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool before enjoying.
